PRESS CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT BY GONG AND GREEN ISTRIA

Presentation of the international project „Enforcement of the Aarhus Convention in the Adriatic Region Countries“ and the international Call for applications for judges, lawyers and journalists from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro wishing to participate to its specialized educational programme

Zagreb, May 14, 2010.

GONG and Green Istria will be holding a press conference on Tuesday, May 18, at 11:00 AM at the premises of GONG, Ban Jelacic Square 15/IV.

Suzana Jasic (GONG) and Dusica Radojcic (Green Istria) will present the „Enforcement of the Aarhus Convention in the Adriatic Region Countries“ project , financed from the pre-ascession fund IPA 2008 – Civil Society Facility. The project aims to improve implementation standards of the weakest pillar of the Aarhus Convention – access to justice in environmental matters, as well as access to information and public participation in decision-making processes that deal with environmental matters in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

The key role within the project is given to a specialized educational programme for 27 judges, lawyers and journalists from respective countries, selected upon an international Call for applications that will be announced and opened at the press conference. The programme will take place in Croatia, and it will consist in a series of lectures from domestic and foreign Aarhus Convention and Environmental Law experts. The Croatian Judicial Academy, having acknowledged the value of the programme, will assign educational credits to judges and representatives of State Attorney's Office who successfully complete its curricula.

Press conferences regarding the project will also be held in Sarajevo and Podgorica within the next 10 days.
